Nick Wetzel won the fourth annual 2-pattern La Crosse Open sponsored by La Crescent Wine & Spirit at Pla-Mor Lanes on Saturday. Wetzel was the top seed and therefore had to be beaten twice by whoever emerged from the stepladder to face him. That turned out to be Dave Beres, and the multi-time PBA Regional champion and Brunswick staffer edged Wetzel in a thrilling opening game 280-279.
