Continuing one of the more extraordinary years by a non-PBA member in bowling history, Matt McNiel has hung on to win the Petersen Classic.
McNiel said in a message on Monday that Petersen tournament manager Sandy Patterson called him to tell him he had won.
McNiel's winning 1,665 came on Sunday, Aug. 30 in a flurry of late scores that also included Dakota Daniels' 1,650 on Aug. 29, Marc McDowell's 1,618 on Aug. 31, and Chris Gibbons' 1,603 on Aug. 17.
