For a brief time on Wednesday, Jason Belmonte almost seemed human.
After opening the 2013 Lipton U.S. Open with rounds of 1,969 and 1,835 to build a 313-pin lead heading into Wednesday’s final eight games of qualifying, Belmonte started with 249, faltered to 164, came back with 226, then struggled again to 145.
At that point, the Aussie 2-hander and Storm staffer actually was under for the block, and looking like he might let the field close the gap.
