A split conversion and a late strike flurry lifted Brian Burkhardt and Rick Gatlin to the doubles lead late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.
Gatlin, of Eureka, Mo., rolled 736 (277-212-247), while Burkhardt, of St. Louis, added 704 (204-257-243) for a 1,440 total, 18 pins more than prior leaders Alex Aguiar and Brian LeClair.
