A 279 has not lost many title matches in PBA Tour history. The two most famous ones were Mike Aulby’s 300-279 win over David Ozio in the title match of the 1993 PBA Wichita Classic and Pete Weber's 289-279 win over Michael Haugen Jr. in the 2001 PBA Greater Louisville Open.  I’m not sure if there have been others, though there was Bryan Goebel’s 296-280 win over Norm Duke in the title match of the 1994 PBA True Value Open.
