As top seed of 2025 USBC Masters, Gary Haines set to follow in long line of underdog champions at Masters

With its double-elimination bracket match play format, the USBC Masters is set up for underdogs: Rather than having to beat every player in the field over dozens of games, a Masters competitor just has to make the 64 for match play then not lose twice in a series of one-on-one matchups.
And over three games, any high-level player can beat the best.
The result has been a collection of unheralded champions unlike anything seen in professional bowling’s other majors.
