The 30th annual Midwest Championship Doubles presented by Bowlers Headquarters is set for Sunday, Dec. 1 at 9:30 a.m. at AMF West, 7505 W. Oklahoma Ave. in Milwaukee.

That will make it a “doubles-header” weekend in Wisconsin as the 34th Wisconsin Scratch Bowlers Tour Over 40/Under 40 Doubles, is set for Saturday, Nov. 30 at Revs Bowl Bar & Grill in Oshkosh, as I detailed in this story.

The entry fee has been increased to $250 ($215 to prize fund, $35 to lineage and expense), with a $100 deposit by Nov. 27 confirming a spot.

Based on 56 teams, first will be $2,500 and 1-in-4 will cash.

For the first time, there also will be an singles side option for $20 ($18 to prize fund, $2 expense fee) that will be available at the tournament. It will be determined on the best four games of the five games of qualifying.

The format will feature five games of qualifying after which the field will be cut to the top 12 duos who will be seeded in three 4-team divisions for three round-robin matches with 20 and 10 bonus pins for match wins and ties, respectively. After match play the three division leaders plus the two highest non-leaders will be seeded in the stepladder finals.

The 2024 Midwest Championship Doubles lane pattern is 41 feet with a 37-foot drop brush, 32.22 mL of oil — 17.25 mL forward and 14.97 mL reverse — left side ratios of 4.03-1 middle-outside track, 1.83-1 middle-middle track, and 1-1 middle-inside track and right side ratios of 4.4-1 middle-outside track, 1.4-1 middle-middle track, and 1-1 middle-inside track.

Doubles teams can have only one PBA Tour player. No players who won a national title in the past two seasons or who finished in the top 10 in points last season are eligible.

No caps, shorts or headwear is allowed.

Ryan Zagar and Matt Gasn won the 2023 Midwest Championship Doubles.

Brother Ryan and Kyle Zagar won the 2022 Midwest Championship Doubles, giving them three titles in the tournament.

The tournament drew the maximum 56 teams last year at AMF West, 54 in 2022, the maximum 56 from 2019-21 at New Berlin Bowl, and in prior years at Bowlero Wauwatosa it drew fields of 69, 60, 83, 79, 85 and 74.
