The 2020 Junior Hall of Fame Tournament was cut to just a scratch division due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so there was no way it could award anywhere near as much in scholarship funds.

But the 14th annual JHOFT tournament held Sunday, Nov. 8 at Bowlero Lanes in the Milwaukee suburb of Wauwatosa still awarded more than $5,500, tournament founder and director Shannon Labinski announced.

The tournament is sponsored by 900 Global, Logo Infusion, MIlwaukee Area USBC and Hall of Fame and Bowlero Lanes.

The 32-team field sold out in two business days after the decision was made to host only the scratch event.

900 Global staffer and PBA superstar Sean Rash joined the 2020 tournament and donated $500 to the scholarship prizes, enabling teams in ninth through 12th to cash.

Labinski bowled for the first time and her team finished fourth after falling to team Glen Deutschendorf, which ran the stepladder for the win. The youth players on the team were Eric Roberts and Branden Schuld. They earned $1,000 and 900 Global balls and Logo Infusion gift certificates.

“If there was one tournament I wanted to win, it was this one,” Deutschendorf said after winning. “I have been close in years past but was never able to make it to the stepladder. Eric and Braden bowled well all day long, through qualifying they carried the team. Once we got into the Baker format, we just clicked as a team, put some strikes together and we were able to make a run.

“I want to thank Shannon for giving me the opportunity to bowl and give back to the kids. I look forward to this tournament every year and can’t wait until next year.”

Here is the stepladder finals (the orientation is corrected quickly):

Owen Jones won the $50 Adam Schultz High Series Award with 981 for four games. McKenzie Mattice won the Jennifer Krueger High Series Award with 919.

Rochelle Roventini and the JHOFT staff got creative with raffles this year by hosting an online auction with 73 items.

Labinski offered special thanks to Steve Mattila for directing the tournament so Shannon could bowl in the event.

The 2020 Celebrity Charity Bowling Event was held the night before (Saturday, Nov. 7) and it raised $6,000 for the JDRF - Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, thanks to the participants and an anonymous donor, Labinski said.

She thanked celebrity bowlers Steven Brinkman, Jen Grisham, Charly Boelter, Andy Mills, Chad Kloss,  Steve Fisher, Ron Vokes and 900 Global Special Guest Sean Rash, as well as sponsors 900 Global, Logo Infusion Inc, Bowlers Headquarters, Storm Bowling, Roto Grip, Chris Holzschuh, Classic Lanes Greenfield and Gina Pouros Daroszewski.

Here is the Facebook post Labinski made:
"Today totally made my year!! I started the Junior Hall of Fame Tournament in 2007 to show youth bowlers what they could accomplish by sticking with the sport of bowling through adulthood. I also wanted to give recognition to the Hall of Fame members. My original intent for this event was to give back but it is me who feels so blessed. I've had a front row seat to the many accomplishments that have taken place during this event through the years and that is so rewarding!!
After 14 years, I bowled in my VERY FIRST Junior Hall of Fame Tournament. I was paired up with two of the most talented, polite and resilient young men I've ever met, Winston and Owen - Their positive, never give up attitudes were a breath of fresh air. I loved the way we worked together as a team, they truly motivated me to do my very best!! Thanks to their great bowling, we made the first cut (5th) then jumped into the step ladder finals (top 4). We finished in 4th Place!! On top of that, Owen won the Adam Schultz High Series Award (high qualifier)!!
I am so incredibly grateful for all the bowlers (youth & adult), volunteers and parents who make this event possible each year. I love sharing this experience with everyone who wants to give back to the sport as much as I do!!
I cherished every single moment with my team today - I am so grateful!! #JHOFT #NeverGiveUp
Congratulations to Team Glen Deutschendorf on the WIN - You were due to become a Champion!!
*Special thanks to all of my volunteers - You know who you are!! Thanks to Steve Mattila for directing the event this year so I could bowl. Thanks to 900 Global for sending Sean Rash (you made even more fans this weekend). Lynda Norry Barnes for your continued support from afar. Rochelle Zawistowski Roventini for leading the raffles again this year. My close family and friends who always support me this weekend and all year long... Jen Grisham, Melissa Nichole, Ron Jr Wallenkamp, Kyle Geurtsen, Debbie Loker Graff and Howard Graff for watching our team in the final rounds. And, of course, Steven Labinski for always supporting my wild ideas!! Love you guys!!
The 15th annual JHOFT is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2021 and hopefully will be held normally or close to it after vaccination is society wide. The Celebrity Challenge again will be the night before."
