Greater Iowa Bowling Association 2022-23 schedule again features 11thFrame.com Open, 2 Ebonite Classics, Iowa Open

The Greater Iowa Bowling Association has released its 2022-23 schedule, which again will include the 11thFrame.com Open, a pair of Ebonite Classics, and the Iowa Open.

GIBA is run by Joe Engelkes, his wife Rosie and daughter Jennifer Wittenburg. They are among the best, if not the best, tournament operators I’ve seen this side of the PBA, running efficient events, taking no expense fees and putting half of the bracket proceeds back into the prize funds at each event — the only money they take out of a tournament is the other half of the bracket proceeds. They also do a great job getting sponsorship for tournaments, and/or working with centers that do that.

In announcing the schedule, Joe Engelkes said that all of GIBA’s sponsors are returning for 2022-23: Diamond Jo Casino, Cherry Lanes, Storm Bowling Products, I AM Bowling, 11thFrame.com, Dubuque Sports Commission, Waterloo CVB, Budweiser/Bud Light, Brandon Steen, Kwik Trip/Kwik Star, Bowlers Connection Pro Shop, Bowlerama, Revolutions Pro Shop, May City Bowl, Plaza Bowl, and Ebonite, which is GIBA’s bowling equipment sponsor.

“There will be other sponsors for some of our tournaments as in the past and I will certainly recognize those as they come on board as well,” he said.

The season kicks off with the 11thFrame.com Open Aug. 19-21 at Cherry Lanes inside the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque, with a sweeper Friday night and the tournament Saturday and Sunday. There will be more than $4,000 in added prize money.

The Ebonite Fall Classic is Sept. 16-18 at Maple Lanes in Waterloo. There will be more than $6,000 in added prize money.

Reservations are being taken for these first two tournament.

The Ebonite Winter Classic will be March 3-5 at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo. This is back to around its traditional dates, after being in early January last year due to Waterloo hosting the Iowa State Tournament.

The rest of the schedule includes a singles tournament at Bowlerama Lanes in Des Moines Oct. 2, the Revolutions Pro Shop Tournament Oct. 23 at Cedar Rapids Bowling Center, the Iowa Open Nov. 20 at May City Bowl in Cedar Rapids, the 50/50 4-Person and Doubles tournaments at Cadillac Dec. 3-4, the Plaza Bowl Open Jan. 14 in Clinton, and the 2-Pattern Doubles Jan. 29 at Big River Bowl in Davenport.

The Iowa Open in recent years has included a spot in the U.S. Open for the winner.
