Back in the heyday of the famed Petersen Classic, the top 100 spots cashed for at least $1,000 and first prize was enough to cover a middle class mortgage. According to the Petersen history PDF attached to this story, the Petersen first went above 30,000 entries in 1974, peaked above 36,000 in 1980 and stayed above 30,000 through 1992. Then came the deluges of the summer of 1993, with a leaky roof at the Petersen’s beloved home at 35th and Archer ending the tournament’s run there...
